Sanjeet & Sunny - 4 Days of Sikh Wedding Festivities

Day 1 - Ladies' Sangeet
Young talents are emerging all the time:
The ladies start to sing:
That's fascinating, but we go outside to play:
And we come back in with the Jaago:
Day 2 - Maiya and Mehndi Ceremonies:
Sanjeet's secret name is Seetay:
She's ready for more:
OK, enough!
Shower time:
The girls are showing off their mehndis:
The master at work:
Mandeep - Sanjeet's sister - poses really well for a camera shy person:
Abstract design:
In the backyard, the ladies can't stop dancing:
Day 3
The maternal uncles come to the house for the Choora Ceremony:
Day 4 - Wedding
Soon enough Sonia Sajnani will have more pictures on my blog than her facebook:
Ioana is feeling creative:
I hope she's not going to leave me to start her own photography company... Please don't tell her she's good!
I found Sunny at the Delta Hotel:
He obviously hasn't done this whole groom thing before. It takes him quite a while to fix his sherwani:
Mom is here to help:
Sunny's real name is Sukhdeep:
I like this version of the horse he uses to come to the Gurdwara:
Guru Granth Sahib is the holy scripture of Sikhism and it was composed during the period of Sikh Gurus, from 1469 to 1708.
Married - that was easy:
I find inspiration right outside the temple:
Mercedes goes well with Jimmy Choos:
Actually, Mercedes goes well with anything:
We make our way to Sanjeet's house for the doli, where a bunch of young Sunnys await. I have to admit, this is scary and funny in the same time:
But the groom stays focused and answers most of the questions thrown at him. This is a chance to learn very interesting facts about Sanjeet. Here's a tip: if you see her driving, stay out of her way!
The deal is almost done:
But an epic battle begins:
It was more of a massacre than a battle:
I know now how a war journalist must feel like:
The main target was very clear:
I didn't mind that at all, but this is really sadistic:
How can you do this to my S550 AMG? Did I just say 'my' ? Sorry, I got emotional for a second:
I'm particularly impressed with the effort by the kids:
Time for grandma to say goodbye:
Sanjeet is exhausted, but we have to squeeze a few more pics before all is over:
I've been photographing more than 20 East-Indian weddings since my debut, last year and I figured it was time to learn the language. Not an easy task since there are lots of languages spoken on the Indian subcontinent.
I'll take it easy so you can learn along, one word per wedding. Sat Sri Akal roughly translates from Punjabi: God is the ultimate truth. It is the universal greeting phrase employed by all Sikhs and other Punjabi speaking people.
It can be used as 'hello' and 'bye'.
Congratulations Sanjeet and Sunny! Thank you so much for the year long relationship!
Sat Sri Akal
